INTRODUCE YOURSELF ON THE FIRST DAY OF WORK
How to introduce yourself on the first day of work?If you are looking for some ideas, here are some tips for you.
Don't be afraid to ask a lot of questions. You're new and it's better to do something right the first time than have to do it again. Nobody expects you to know everything.
Smile a lot and be as friendly as possible to everyone you meet –no matter what their position is or how important they are! Use your lunch hours to get together with your co-workers. Get to know them and their interests.
Pay attention to the rumours, but don't join them. You don't want to be thought as a gossip.
Don't complain about your boss, any co-workers, or the job you did before. Continue to arrive early and don't rush out of the door at the end of the day.
Keep a positive attitude and an open mind. Your life has changed and you will get used to it.

Cross training is training an employee to do a different part of the organization's work. Training worker A to do the task that worker B does and training B to do A’s task is cross training. Cross training is good for managers because it provides more flexibility in managing the workforce to get the job done. On the other hand, cross training has some benefits for the employees as well. It lets them learn new skills, makes them more valuable, keeps them stimulated and reduces worker boredom.
Cross training can be used in almost any position in almost any industry.I cross trained some of my design engineers to go on field installation trips and get first hand knowledge of how their designs worked, or didn’t work, in the field. Cashiers can be trained to stock shelves and stockers trained to cashier. This allows you to quickly open additional registers if the customer queue gets too long.
As you prepare cross training plans, you need to consider both the company benefits and the employee benefits. Carefullyselect the employees to be cross trained. Some people like to learn new things. Some are more comfortable sticking to what they know. Don’t decide which employees are ready for a change based on their age or performance.
1. Cross training is training an employee to do a different job in a different company. {T、F}
2. Cross training is beneficial not only for managers but also for employees.{T、F}
3. Cross training can apply to almost any position and almost any industry.{T、F}

5. You can decide which employees to be cross trained according to their age.{T、F}

A brand new _Minecraft_ game will be story-driven.
The new series of “_Minecraft: Story Mode_” will be set in the world of _Minecraft__,_ but it will feature an original story that combines new characters with familiar themes. It is driven by player choice. It will be a separate standalone product.
The decision to make the new game community-driven is potentially brilliant. It’s interesting that feedback from the community is going to be brought into _Minecraft: Story Mode_. In a way, it echoes what _Minecraft_ is. It is a user-generated world.
It’s likely that there already have been gamers on _Minecraft_ fan blogs. They have come up with theories as to how the universe was created. There could be lots of contradictory things there. But from a marketing standpoint, it makes all the sense in the world for the community of “you guys are going to write this.”
_Minecraft_ first came out in 2009 and is probably due for an evolution of some sort. _Story Mode_ seems like a natural next step. A dedicated fan base has very high expectations. It will be satisfied with the story it is developing.
There will be challenges, however. _Minecraft_ does not follow what the game industry is used to working with. It will be a completely different development scenario. It is a world with no story and starting from the beginning. As long as the _Minecraft_ story is popular and successful, that might be OK.
*
* The new series of game will feature a new story with unfamiliar themes. {T; F}
* The new game will be combined with other products. {T; F}
* The new game is community-driven. {T; F}
* The game fans can create the theories of the universe on the _Minecraft _blogs. {T; F}
* Minecraft strictly follows the rules of the game industry. {T; F}

Passage 2
How can we ease the process of coming to terms with a new culture?Everyone going to work or study in an alien culture for any length of time will experience culture shock. Sooner or later frustrations and despondency stemming from trying to come to terms with unfamiliar ways will arise. However , it' s possible to take steps to lessen the severity of culture shock and to hasten adjustment to the culture of the new country , to the host culture.
First , newcomers need to remember that the host culture has its own reasons for doing things in a certain way. When you run up against difficulties , try to avoid the simple assumption that people are behaving in an unreasonable or hostile fashion. Be more charitable. Assume instead that your expectations were thwarted because you didn' t yet quite grasp the local ways. Suspend judgment until you are sure you understand the case fully.
Such understanding can come from several sources. One of the most important is from those who come from the same cultural background , who have gone through the same experience and successfully adjusted to life in the new environment. Adaptation is on occasion a two-way process. British workers in a Japanese factory in England have to learn to adapt to the different work practices imported by their Japanese managers from Japan; at the same time the latter have to become acclimatized to life in England....
21. Only a few people may experience culture shock when they come to a new culture.
22. It is important to understand that different cultures have different ways of doing things.
23. People tend to show hostile behavior. when they are in a foreign country.
24. It is useful to talk to people who are newly adjusted to the new culture.
25. It is enough for the newcomers in a culture to adapt themselves.
