W: Why don't you try house-sitting? Last summer Cindy was a house sitter for the Smiths when they went away on vacation. They hired Cindy to stay in their house because they didn't want it left empty.
M: You mean they paid Cindy just to live in their house?
W: It wasn't that easy. She had to water the house plants, mow the lawn, and even take care of the pets.
M: I guess it is a little like baby-sitting, except you're taking care of a house instead of children.
W: The student employment office still has a few jobs posted.
M: Do I just have to fill oat an application?
W: You have to have an interview with the homeowner and provide three references at least.
M: That seems like a lot of trouble for a summer job.
W: Well, the homeowner wants some guarantee that they can trust the house sitter. You know they want to make sure you're not the type who'll hold wild parties in their house, or bring a group of friends in with you.
M: I see. House sitters who do that sort of thing probably aren't paid then.
W: Usually they're paid anyway just because the homeowners don't want to make a fuss. But if the homeowner reports it, the house sitter won't be able to get another job easily. So why don't you apply?
M: I think I will. Thank you.

A timetable will help you see how you spend your time every day. For a one- week period, take notes of your daily activities. Record things like when you are at work, school,or home with family. This way you can find days and times that can be devoted to studying.
Set priorities. First find out areas in which you’re strong and others in which you need more efforts. Then arrange your time accordingly.
Find your goals for each learning period, and develop a plan that can help you achieve those goals. Take into consideration tests, papers, and projects that will take more time than others. Be flexible. When exams are close, cut time on parties, cinemas, etc.,so that you can pay more attention to study.
If you can, find time for study by yourself and time for study with friends. Try to choose those who can spend time together with you and those who can help you with your weak subjects. One way to make you follow your plan is to find time for extracurricular activities, such as exercises, hobbies, and joining school clubs. When you are studying, remember to take breaks so that you won’t get bored. After some rest, you will get your mind more active for study. You might not realize a closed position is the cause of many conversational problems. A common closed position is sitting with your arms and legs crossed and your hand covering your mouth or chin. This is often called the "thinking pose". Ask yourself this question: Are you going to interrupt someone who appears to be deep in thought? This position gives off "stay away" signs and prevents your main "sign sender" (your mouth) from being seen by others looking for inviting conversational signs.
The open body position is most effective when you place yourself within communicating distance of the other person—that is, within about five feet. Take care, however, not to enter someone's "personal space" by getting too close, too soon.
Leaning forward a little while a person is talking shows your interest and how you are listening to what the person is saying. By doing this, you are saying: I hear what you're saying, and I'm interested in—keep talking!
Often people will lean back with their hands over their mouth, chin, or behind their head in the "thinking" pose. This position gives off signs of judgment, doubt, and lack of interest from the listener. Since most people do not feel comfortable when they think they are being judged, this leaning-back position serves to prevent the speaker from continuing.
In many cultures the most common form. of first contact between two people is a handshake. Be the first to extend your hand in greeting. Couple this with a friendly "Hello", a nice smile, and your name and you have made the first step to open the lines of communication.
Eye contact should be natural, not forced or overdone. Direct eye contact shows you are listening to the other person and that you want to know about her.
A person smiles to show______.
A.he is kind and useful
B.he is happy all the time
C.he is ready to talk with you
D.he sees something funny
