A major new study shows that the situation may be changing. A large and rapid drop in the world's birth rate has taken place during the past 10 years. Families generally are smaller now than they were a few years ago. It is happening in both developing and industrial nations.
Researchers said they found a number of reasons for this. More men and women are waiting longer to get married and are using birth control devices and methods to prevent or delay pregnancy. More women are going to school or working at jobs away from their homes instead of having children. And more governments, especially in developing nations, now support family planning programs to reduce population growth. China is one of the nations that has made great progress in reducing its population growth.
China has already cut its rate of population growth by about one half since 1970. China now urges each family to have no more than one child. And it hopes to reach zero population growth, the number of births equaling the number of deaths, by the year 2000.
Several nations in Europe already have fewer births than deaths. Experts said that these nations could face a serious shortage of workers in the future. And the persons who are working could face much higher taxes to help support the growing number of retired people.
In the sentence "Experts long have been concerned about such growth" of Paragraph 1, the phrase "concerned about" is similar in meaning to ______.
A.worried about
B.related to
C.engaged in
D.made a study of

Milk has become a popular drink for modem Chinese, not only is its nutritional(营养的) value appreciated, it seems even to have taken the role making the whole nation strong. Milk industry has only about 180 years of history among the Hah people. For a long time, milk was considered a luxury(奢侈的) drink by common people. A widespread saying in the country was that Japan used a cup of milk to strengthen the constitution(体格) of its people. That sounds reasonable because the rich "Ca" in milk definitely benefits the constitution.
The average annual consumption per capita in Japan has risen from less than 10 kilograms immediately after World War II to 68 kilograms today. The average height of Japanese has increased by 11 centimeters during this period. The Chinese Government also hopes to improve the constitution of local people, and since milk is the most obvious nutritious food, it has naturally been picked up. But due to tradition, Chinese people are not in the habit of drinking milk regularly. The annual output of milk in the country is about 10 million tons, compared with an output of alcohol reaching 8 million tons. The annual milk consumption per capita is about 7 kilograms in China while the world's average is about 100 kilograms. The government has noticed the huge gap and plans to raise consumption to 10 kilograms per capita by 2005 and 16 kilograms by 2010. The government has also started plans for "school milk" since the beginning of this century.
Chinese government encourage people to drink milk and hope that ______.
A.the whole nation will become stronger
B.the milk industry will have a faster development
C.milk will no longer be considered a luxury drink
D.its nutritional value will be more appreciated

China has launched its first aircraft carrier built entirely on its own, in a demonstration of the growing technical sophistication of its defense industries and determination to safeguard its maritime territorial claims and crucial trade routes.
The 50,000-ton carrier was towed from its dockyard just after 9 a.m. Wednesday following a ceremony in the northern port city of Dalian, where its predecessor, the Soviet-built Liaoning, underwent extensive refurbishing before being commissioned in 2012, the Ministry of National Defense said.
Development of the new carrier began in 2013 and construction in late 2015. It's expected to be formally commissioned sometime before 2020, after sea trials and the arrival of its full air complement. The carrier program is a key part of China's naval expansion at a time when it is looking to beef-up its regional military influence to match its economic might. While China says it maintains a defensive military policy, its ambitions are rattling some neighbors who see Beijing as fueling already enflamed tensions in the region.
Chinese naval strategists see the carrier program not only as a means to protect their country's maritime interests, but also to have "naval power commensurate with China's international status, to impress both external and domestic audiences," said Michael Chase, an expert on the Chinese military at U.S. think tank the RAND Corporation.
The new carrier "is likely to be seen as further evidence of China's desire to become the most powerful and influential country in the region," he saiD.That will be especially worrying to Indian security analysts who are already concerned about Beijing's ambitions in the Indian Ocean, he said.
India, along with Japan and Taiwan which also view Chinese carriers as threats, will likely respond by building new submarines and anti-ship missiles, said lan Easton, a research Fellow at The Project 2049 Institute in Arlington, Virginia.
China's expansionist behavior in the South China Sea and its aggressive efforts to undermine the security of Taiwan and Japan, in particular, have translated into a situation where few countries now trust that Beijing has benign motives," Easton said.
Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Geng Shuang reiterated China's contention that it maintains a purely defense military posture and "sticks to the path of peaceful development."The purpose to develop national defense forces including the navy is to safeguard our national sovereignty, security and development interests,as well as the peace of the world," Geng told reporters Wednesday at a daily news conference.
China has offered little information about the roles it expects its carriers to play, although its planning appears to be evolving as it gains more experience. The Liaoning was initially touted mainly as an experimental and training platform, but in December was declared to be combat-ready and has taken part in live-firing exercises in the South China Sea, where tensions have risen over China's construction of man-made islands complete with airstrips and military structures.Earlier this year the Liaoning sailed through the Taiwan Strait, which was seen as a message to Taiwan, which China claims as its own territory to be brought under control by force if necessary.
Wednesday's launch was presided over by the vice chairman of China's Central Military Commission and Communist Party Central Committee, Fan Chang long, and came just three days after the anniversary of the People's Liberation Army Navy's symbolic founding in 1949. Also attending was navy commander Vice Adm.
Shen Jinlong, a former commander of the South Sea Fleet responsible for defending China's claim to virtually the entire South China Sea.Reports of the launch said a bottle of champagne was broken across the ship's bow and other craft in the port sounded their horns in celebration.
Like the 60,000-ton Liaoning, which was purchased from the Ukraine, the new carrier is based on the Soviet Kuznetsov class design, with a ski jump-style deck for taking off and a conventional oil-fueled steam turbine power plant. That limits the weight of the payloads its planes can carry, its speed and the amount of time it can spend at sea relative to American nuclear-powered carriers.

A.They regard it as a threat.
B.They think it will contribute to the regional security.

A.They will send more new submarines and purchase more anti-ship missiles.
B.They will build new submarines and anti-ship missiles.
C.They will increase the number of research Fellows at The Project 2049 Institute.
D.They will receive training at The Project 2049 Institute in Arlington, Virginia.
4.What did Geng Shuang say to oppose China Threat Theory?()
A.China develops national defense forces including the navy to safegard Hong Kong and Macau.
B.China develops national defense forces including the navy to defeat the United States in the new century.
C.China develops its navy to enhance the interests of the member states of the United Nations.
D.China assumes a completely defense military posture and pursues a peaceful development policy.
5.In what way is the new carrier similar to the Liaoning?()
A.The new carrier is also based on the Nimitz class design.
B.The new carrier also has a ski jump-style deck for taking off.
C.The new carrier is also nuclear-powered.
D.The weight of the payloads its planes can carry, its speed and the amount of time it can spend at sea are also satisfactory.
