When you hear the word “farm”, you may imagine the countryside with cows and crops. But scientists say the farm of the future could be built in tall buildings in some large cities.
It may be difficult to believe, but in fact, the technology for growing crops indoors already exists. Farming in the city is already happening. Some vegetables are already grown in greenhouse. Even the scientists at the South Pole research station can enjoy fresh vegetables they grow in their own greenhouse.
Experts say indoor farming solves many problems. First, traditional farming takes up a lot of land. Growing crops in tall buildings—called vertical farming(垂直农业)—can solve the problem. Also, fruits and vegetables grown indoors would not face serious threats from insects and bad weather.
Though vertical farms don’t exist yet, experts have created a plan for recycling in such farms. The water from indoor fish ponds would be used to water chicken or pigs would be reused as a source of energy.
But experts believe vertical farming is not going to be easy. They say it can be difficult to control climate conditions indoors. Besides, plants differ in their weather and lighting needs. For example, some plants like warm, sunny weather, but other plants prefer cooler temperature.
That’s not to say these difficulties won’t be overcome—but it will take time. Most experts suggest it may take about 5 to 15 years before the first vertical farms could be created.

Of course, the best paper comes from wood.Wood comes from trees, and trees are plants.Vegetables and fruit and plants too,and we eat a lot of them.So can we also eat wood and paper?
Scientists say,"All food comes in some way from plants." Well,is that true? Animals eat grass and grow fat. Then we eat their meat.Little fish eat little sea-plants; then bigger fish swim along and eat the...Chickens eat bits of grass and give us...Think for a minute. What food does not come from plants in some way?
Scientists can do wonderful things with plants. They can make food just like meat and cheese. And they can make it without the help of animals. It is very good food too.Now they have begun to say,"We make our paper from wood.We can also make food from wood. The next thing is not very difficult." What is the next thing? Perhaps it is-food from paper.Scientists say,"We can turn paper into food.It will be good, cheap food too; cheaper than meat or fish or eggs."
So please keep your old books and letters.Don't feed them to your cat.) One day, soon, they will be on your plate. There is nothing like a good story for breakfast.

A rain garden is not very different from a traditional garden. It is just a far more eco-friendly garden. Usually it is built lower than the ground. Rain gardens make smart use of rain and storm water by temporarily holding water from rain and storms and letting it soak(渗透) slowly into the ground before it runs into streams or enters the public drinking water supply.
Thus, a rain garden keeps the water, allowing it to be used as needed by plants in the rain garden, rather than flowing immediately into nearby streams and going unused. The water will soak slowly into the ground within a day or two. This creates an advantage that the rain garden does not allow mosquitoes to breed. This is a simple, attractive, and eco-friendly “green” way to treat storm water.
What’s more, planting a rain garden helps reduce pollution and improve the environment. Without using expensive machinery and chemicals, rain gardens remove harmful chemicals in the rainwater and cut down on the amount of pollution reaching streams and rivers by up to 30%.
Native plants are recommended for rain gardens because they are more used to the local climate, soil, and water conditions. They may attract local wildlife such as native birds. Water your rain garden immediately after planting and once a week, unless you have had at least an inch of rain during the week. Once native plants establish the necessary root system, they will require little care.
Often, local governments and private businesses develop large rain gardens in their yards and in public parks as a way to improve the environment and solve flooding problems. However, you don’t need to be a professionally environmental engineer to create a rain garden. As long as you’re ecoconscious homeowners, you can help the environment by building smaller rain gardens in your yards.

1.New leaves are spread in order to reduce water content until they are pliable enough to be rolled. This process is called withering.
2.The second step is rolling the withered leaves.Oils and extra moisture are released. This process can be done with machinery or by hand.
3.The third step is called oxidation or fermentation. In this process the leaves turn from green to bright copper in colour. This step decides what type of tea we want.
4.The last step is drying the leaves to stop the oxidation process. The leaves should be dried thoroughly without burning.
Decide each statement is T (true) or F (false) based on Passage B.
6.The processing of tea decides the tea types.
7.Green tea requires a little oxidation.

The problem is that in the last century and a half, we have been putting too many of these gases into the earth's atmosphere by burning large quantities of coal and oil and by cutting down forests. The rapid increase in greenhouse gases is making the world warmer. The world's temperature has already gone up by half a degree this century, and the sea level has risen by 10 centimetres. If the amount of carbon dioxide(二氧化碳)in the atmosphere doubles, there will probably be a rise in the earth's temperature of between 1 and 4 degrees. This may seem a small increase, but it would be enough to cause major changes in geography and agriculture. Large areas of the world would be flooded, and some areas would become dry and unable to produce crops. It is important, too, to consider that there may be a delay of about 30 years in the greenhouse effect. This means that we are probably experiencing only now the effect of the gases put into the atmosphere before the 1960s. Since then, our use of these gases has greatly increased.

A. Burning too much coal and oil produces lots of greenhouse gases.
B. It has become warmer on the earth now than in the past.
C. Gases put into the atmosphere now will affect the earth years later.
D. The temperature in a greenhouse is as high as that in the atmosphere.
4. Suppose the earth's temperature rose by 3 degrees, _____.
