听力原文: In preparing a book, I asked several successful executives to tell me what they thought students should study if they wanted to succeed in business. They listed only a few technical subjects accounting and finance, for example. But time and again, these executives identified philosophy as one of the most important areas you can study for learning how to think in a disciplined, analytical, and imaginative way.
The way that philosophy helps you see the world is no less real than its practical benefits to your career. Studying philosophy exposes you to a wide range of problems that you wouldn't meet otherwise. It simply lets you see more of the world. It stretches your imagination. It challenges you to come up with your own answers to tough issues that do not have ready-made solutions.
Studying philosophy helps you to develop insight into some of life's great puzzles and to fashion your own vision of what life is all about. As you go through life, you will be challenged all along the way to make decisions about who you are and what's important to you. Philosophy helps you develop a sense of what life is all about and where you're going.
In fact, Socrates, one of the first great philosophers, thought that philosophy is the single most important element in making our lives worthwhile. "The unexamined life," he said, "is not worth living." In Socrates' mind, at least, philosophy makes it possible for us to control our own destiny.

听力原文: At the end of the total accounting period and after all transactions have been journalized and posted, the equality of the debit and credit entries is checked by preparing a trial balance. A trial balance is a schedule that lists the titles of the accounts in the general ledger and their debit or credit balances. If the trial balance is in balance, the financial statements can be prepared. If a trial balance does not agree, it implies that an error or errors have been made. The account balances, postings and the journal entries must be checked until the error is found. A trial balance does not prove that all transactions have been recorded or that the ledger is correct. The trial balance may still agree when a transaction is not journalized, a journal entry is not posted, an entry is posted twice, incorrect accounts are used in journalizing or posting, or offsetting errors are made in recording the amount of a transaction.

听力原文: In public speaking, the watch word is preparation. Most of us tend to put things off, at least occasionally. It's so easy to put things off especially those things we do not look forward to doing. So if the speaking engagement is several weeks off, we may feel that we still have plenty of time. But as the day draws closer, we begin to panic. Don't let this happen to you. Start preparing as soon as you're given or accept the speaking assignment. You have much to do and to do it right will take time. How much better your speech will be and how much better you'll feel if you have taken the time to do it right! When you are prepared, you have gathered the needed data, determined what is appropriate to the listener's understanding and acceptance levels, organized the ideas so they flow logically, selected examples and other supports for your ideas and made them interesting to your listeners, developed a great opening that you know will capture the attention of even the daydreamers in your audience checked out the room where you'll be speaking and requested any feasible changes you wish in the set-up of the room If you are prepared, you are confident that you can best convey your message to your listeners. If you waited until a few days before your presentation to begin to prepare, or worse, yet, the day before, no doubt you'll be anxious and with good reason. And now there is not enough time to engage in more than a superficial attempt. Both you and the audience will feel uncomfortable, like retirement planning. It is never too early to start preparing for your presentation. So, start preparing right away.

Ladies and Gentlemen, during my stay here for 5 years, I have noticed many culturaldifferences. Such cultural differences arise from a difference in region, race, history, environment and in the levels of social and economic development.//
Here are some examples. We American emphasize efficiency, competition and originality, while your management gives priority to careful planning and encourages close cooperation.//
In American schools, discussion is given top priority and seminar is the usual way of class.Teachers with flexible and adaptable talents are regarded as good and popular ones.//
But Chinese teachers like to lecture in class, and a lot of them are obsessed with examinations;they spend long hours planning and preparing lessons, and writing consistent andstandardized plans. It&39;s very interesting to us.
